Lord Muruga Vel worship is ancient and our ancestors used to do this worship at home. Vel is a sacred symbol of wisdom and heroism of Lord Murugan, Vel worship destroys our vices and evil qualities and refines us both spirutually and mentally.

Can we do Vel worship at home / in the workplace?

Yes, we can do Vel worship at home / work places. Vel worship does not have the strict Agama Rules as in the case of Idol Worship, hence any one can keep Vel in their prayer room without fear and offer prayers. Vel with different sizes like 1 foot, half feet, or even smaller than that can be worshipped. Vel can be made of Silver, Brass, Copper, Pancha loham or Karungali (Ebony).

Karungali (Ebony) Vel Worship Method:

After revceiving Karungali Vel, first wash once with raw milk, then wash it once with pure water, allow it to dry well then wipe it with a clean cloth. At an auspicious time place the Vel in a heap of Vibuthi (Nattu Mattu Thiruneeru/Desi Cow Dung Bhasma) or Raw Rice in a Brass or Copper Pot/Plate in the Pooja Room and insert the Vel in a standing position. Decorate the Karungali Vel with Flowers, Turmeric Powder, Natural Kumkum, and Sandalwood Paste, during daily prayers we can chant Lord Murugan Mantras/ Kanda Sasthi Kavasam/ 108 Murugan Potris and show dhoop, deepa arti, Abhishekam/Naivedyam is not mandatory for Vel Pooja Worship. Vibuthi (Nattu Mattu Thiruneeru/Desi Cow Dung Bhasma) and Raw Rice can be replaced and changed with fresh ones during monthly Sashti Day. Vibuthi taken can be used and Rice taken can be used to cook vegetarian food.
